Why do players have plane shifts versus a "zero shift" ...Here's my uneducated answer....

Zero shift for a "Straight Away...Maximun Compression...Minimal Deflection"

....Plane Shifts for different Trajectories and Curvatures which involve different lines of compression ...plane lines that might be shifted right or left of the Target Line...(Remmber Swingers can work the ball by rotating their plane line for curvature which is different than "Bending the Plane Line")

Swinger shifts plane line to the right (closed body lines- stance, etc.) for a draw (well, generally).....shifted to the left for a fade (generally)....

....I say generally because it depends on your grip, ball position....prolly some other things.
