Its about the only way you can tell he's hitting unless you're standing right beside him and can hear the knock out punch he is giving it with his actively extending right arm. When he's hitting he's more Ali than Frazer. Floats like a butterfly, stings like a bee. Still lots of drag and lag. Thats the way he does it anyways. But start in Chapter 12.
