Picking Up Where He Left Off -- Birdie!
With birdies at the 1st and 7th and a bogey at the 3rd, Brian is -1 through 11 and T18. http://www.pgatour.com/leaderboards/...475/index.html
His opening birdie is a highlight video today on the PGA TOUR's website. Check out his delicate little pitch to the par 5 1st. [You'll have to sit through the commercial the first time 'round. After that, you can replay it without that inconvenience.]

When it comes to these little shots, there is no one better in the game.

They make a similar shirt in husky sizes, but it has a vertical stripe. I say, who are they fooling!

The reason you can't sustain the lag is because you are so eager to make the club move fast (a reaction to the intent of "hitting it far"). So on a full shot you throw it away too early, which doesn't happen for your short chip. (bts)

Tough Day
Both Brian and Jay had bogey trouble on their back nines. Each posted first round scores of 73.
Rain delayed Thursday's play, and the round was completed this morning. This pushed back the second round tee times one hour and forty minutes. Jay is already on the course, opening with two birdies but following them with four bogies to end his outward nine at +2 for the day and +4 for the tournament. Brian goes at 2:20.

No Joy In Mudville
In the most brutal conditions yet faced on the 2008 PGA TOUR -- high winds up to 40 mph and cold -- both Our Heroes missed the cut. Ironically, Brian Gay and Jay Williamson posted identical scores:
73-77=150.
The cut came at +3 (145) and 79 players were on that number. That means that the TOUR's new 54-hole cut rule comes into play, and there will be a second cut at the conclusion of today's round.
It will be interesting to get the players' reactions to this first-ever situation.
